Loisaba is a striking wilderness area of 56‚000 acres – bigger than ten of the world’s countries.  In Laikipia in the foothills of Mt Kenya‚ Loisaba has a combination of grassy plains‚ valleys‚ cliffs‚ escarpments and two major rivers‚ and is home to over 50 species of animals and 260 species of birds.  It also offers luxurious accommodation and possibly the most diverse and exciting range of activities in Kenya.

At Loisaba‚ visitors can combine game watching‚ adventure and conservation.  Quad bike through the varied terrain while supporting the building of the local school through Loisaba’s Quads for Classrooms programme.  Test your reflexes while plunging down the escarpment on a mountain bike.  Trek through the bush on camels and camp overnight in a remote valley.  Horse-ride across the savannah and see how close you can get to the wild animals.  Fish in the river or in the dams or‚ for a more exhilarating experience‚ raft down the Ewaso Ngiro River in a specially designed inflatable raft.  All the profit from these and more tourism activities at Loisaba is spent on the conservation of the area‚ and the support of local communities.

The star beds‚ one of Loisaba’s most popular treats‚ are four-poster beds raised on platforms on which visitors really can sleep under the stars.  One set of star beds overlooks a waterhole‚ and the other stands on the banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River: both give visitors the chance to wake and look down on animals drinking at – or swimming in – the water below.

Loisaba is not only a functioning cattle ranch and wildlife sanctuary‚ it is a research station that has implemented many conservation projects.  The Laikipia Predator Project‚ partially based on Loisaba‚ offers visitors the chance to use receivers and antenna to track lions and monitor their movements‚ accompanied by a researcher.  The Loisaba Community Trust supports a number of local education and medical projects‚ including granting scholarships‚ building classrooms and paying teachers.  For a cultural experience‚ visitors are welcome to spend an afternoon at a village to see how the local Maasai and Samburu people live.

Safarilink operates daily scheduled flights to Loisaba‚ connecting to both Nairobi and the Maasai Mara.
